Active Spotlight: Joe Cerne
Joe Cerne is a junior at Puget Sound this year. He is a two-sport varsity athlete, participating as a varsity football captain in the fall, and running track for the Loggers in the spring. He is also involved in several clubs and organizations on campus, including the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the Student Athlete Advisory Committee.
His most recent accomplishments have come on the track with his Northwest Conference Championship in the Decathlon. Joe scored 6,237 points in the two-day event to bring the crown home to Puget Sound. At the time his score ranked him 5th amongst all D-III athletes. He later traveled to Claremont, CA for the D-III National Championships and finished 14th, setting another personal best mark at 6,416 points. More recently, Joe defended his title in the Northwest Conference Championship in the Decathlon event bringing Puget Sound the crown for the second consecutive year. He enjoys his Spanish classes the most, saying that he truly enjoys the ability to experience other cultures of the world. Although he isn’t entirely sure of his career path in the future, he mentions that he would like to eventually start his own business working with sustainability and other environmentally related issues.
